How short should St. Augustine be cut?
Three and a half to four inches, higher in August. Cut at two it thins, the soil bakes, and weeds take the gaps. The blade is sharpened every few visits so it cuts rather than tears.
When does pre-emergent go down?
When the soil at root depth reads about 55°F for several days in a row, usually late January to mid-February here, and again in early fall. By the calendar it is often already too late.
What is the brown circle in my lawn?
Brown patch fungus if the edge is a smoky ring and the grass pulls free at the base; chinch bug if it is on the hot sunny strip by concrete and the blades are drying from the tip. They get different treatments, so we look before we spray.
What does a year of lawn care cost?
